Backs to the future

It's good to see that Lossiemouth High has been nothing if not honest about its past, as it seeks to put those years behind it and become a school of ambition.

The school's successful submission to the Scottish Executive, unveiled to councillors at Moray Council's last education committee meeting, begins starkly under the heading "Who we were".

'Are you the new heidie?' it proclaimed. 'These are the words that greeted one of the acting heads on her first day. Howls of laughter preceded the challenge that followed: 'Huh! We've got rid o' one headie, we can easy di it again'."

Small wonder, perhaps, that the school asks: "Can pupils be the drivers for change?"
