Ban on potential

A teenager has claimed she was barred from a hair-and-beauty course for being too clever. Stacey Wilson, 14, applied to study for the GCSE at City school, Sheffield but according to her family she was rejected after being told "it would be a waste of her potential".

Her mother, Clare Wilson, told the Sheffield Star: "I think it's just snobbery." City school said the course had been oversubscribed.
