Aberdeen University has turned to the Economic and Social Research Council for its new principal to succeed Sir Duncan Rice. Ian Diamond, the council's chief executive, will take over the post next October. His CV includes chairing the Lloyds Banking Group Foundation, linked to the HBOSLloyds bank, which is headed in Scotland by Susan Rice, Sir Duncan's wife.
