Baptisms for school places

Parents are baptising their children in an attempt to win places at popular Roman Catholic schools, an academic has said. Anthony Spencer, director of the Pastoral Research Centre, a religious research unit, said an analysis of official church figures shows that thousands of children are now being baptised after their first birthday. This may be a panic measure to get them into a good Catholic school, he said.
