A new basketball coach has been appointed for the under-16 girls' national training squad who are preparing for the Four Countries Championship in Aberdeen in March.

Jim Lay, principal teacher of physical education at Eastbank Academy in Glasgow, succeeds Stewart Harris, former basketball co-ordinator for Team Sport Scotland, who has become the Team Sport director.

Lay took his 12-strong squad to Wales, where they showed encouraging form, beating Mid-Glamorgan Schools 87-28 and Welsh Schools 76-40 the following day.

Leanne Stupart, St David's High in Dalkeith, was top scorer in the first game with 14 points. Against the Welsh national side one of Lay's own Eastbank team, Louise McGoldrick, led the way, again with 14 points.
