Mike Davis ("Value judgment", TES, July 27) questions the value of the threshold in the light of the number who failed. But 3 per cent of 200,000 is not 576 teachers as he says - it is 6,000. These experienced staff have not met national standards. This alone demonstrates the impact of the threshold and the need for performance management.
