John McDonald is our man in China these days, or to be precise, the Scottish Qualifications Authority business manager for international awarding.

On visiting an English class in a Chinese school, McDonald asked students if they could name any British cities. London, surely, or even Manchester, with its famous football team (City?).

No, neither of these two world-famous giants. "Paisley," was the instant response.

Apparently they knew someone studying at the internationally renowned local university.
