Books for pound;1 or less;Children's Books

Publishers and booksellers will be discounting some titles to cut the difference between the value of the vouchers and the normal cover price of books. Red Fox, for example, will be taking pound;1 off the price of its Biggles and Swallows amp; Amazons titles. But here are some options for those who decide to stick to the value of the pound;1 voucher.

THE CHILDREN'S BOOK OF BOOKS. (Puffin pound;1)

Extracts, mostly classics ranging from Dr Seuss to Dr Dolittle, chosen and commented on by celebrities (see left).

WICKED!. (Puffin pound;1)

A serial in six pound;1 volumes, with alternate chapters by Paul Jennings and Morris Gleitzman (see above).

LARKS WITH SHARKS. (Macmillan pound;1)

A World Book Day poetry anthology.

QUIDS FOR KIDS. (Orion Dolphin pound;1)

An excellent series of themed story anthologies, commissioned by Wendy Cooling.

MINI TREASURES. (Red Fox 99p)

Pocket editions of picture books by artists such as David McKee, Shirley Hughes and Tony Ross (see right).

DOVER THRIFT EDITIONS. (Dover 95p)

Well-known and popular titles include The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll amp; Mr Hyde and North American Indian Tales.

PENGUIN CLASSICS. (Penguin 60p)

Children's titles include Heidi, Kidnapped and A Child's Garden of Verses.

WORDSWORTH CLASSICS. (Wordsworth pound;1)

Includes several titles by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE MINI-BOOKS. (Mammoth 99p)

The evergreen antics of Thomas and his friends in the railway yard.

LITTLE MONSTERS. (Splash! 99p)

Alliterative titles by Tony Garth.
