One hot summer, the Queen of Hearts made 75 jam tarts.

Over 5 days, the Knave of Hearts, who was a bit of a rascal, stole them all.

Each day he stole 4 more jam tarts than the day before. How many jam tarts did the Knave of Hearts steal each day?

Ages 12-15

Tennis club

140 people are members of a tennis club.

The average age of the members of the club is 24.

The average age of the men in the club is 21.

The average age of the women in the club is 28.

How many women belong to the tennis club?

SOLUTIONS Jam tarts The Knave of Hearts stole 7, 11, 15, 19 and 23 jam tarts each day. On the four days after the first day, the Knave stole an "extra" 4+8+12+16 jam tarts, a total of 40. The other 35 jam tarts that he stole were split equally between the 5 days, 7 per day. Adding on the extras gives 7, 11, 15, 19 and 23 jam tarts each day.

Tennis club 60 women belong to the tennis club.
