Bursary for history teachers

29th March 2013 at 00:00

Many thanks for covering the Scottish Association of Teachers of History CPD bursary in last week's TESS. Hopefully, the coverage will increase awareness of the bursary and lead to applications.

One point, however, should be noted. The bursary is for Scottish history teachers to attend CPD events outwith Scotland. This was very much the purpose of the bursary, as one of its aims was to keep SATH connected internationally.

It was interesting that Brian Cooklin commented in the same edition on the attractiveness of our teachers to schools abroad. Just as our teachers are attractive in other countries for what they can bring, we must ensure that we continue to learn from other countries and bring lessons from beyond our shores.

Engaging with that international community is one way to ensure that we are refreshed and constantly improving.

Neil McLennan, SATH president, Aberdeenshire.
