(Photograph) - Cara Aitken, a fifth-year pupil at Firrhill High in Edinburgh, is one university contender who believes that she has benefited from Scholar, using it to study online for her chemistry Higher. This allowed her to take six Highers instead of five. Pat Cairns, the school's headteacher, says that the initiative is of value in helping teachers meet specific needs, in the same way that Successmaker is used with less able youngsters. "Scholar provides materials of very high quality, it is motivating for the pupils and we try to use it as creatively as possible - not confining it to S5-S6, for example, but offering it in S4 when necessary," she said
