Santa Claus did secondaries throughout the country no favours by delivering so many mobile phones. Pupils were driving teachers, as the saying goes, fair dementit, until phone bans were instituted.

The situation got out of hand at one secondary after a girl phoned the fire brigade. In posh, articulate tones, she informed the local station the school was urgently in need of assistance.

After the boys with the yellow hats had arrived and returned to base, the boys in blue showed that technology can be a two-edged sword. They traced the hoaxer's mobile.

Result: Polis 1 Poseurs 0.
