Centre correction

13th July 2001 at 01:00
May I correct a misleading impression which may have been given about our Cleveland Training Centre in Ngaio Crequer's accurate report on the first five inspections by the new Adult Learning Inspectorate (June 24 2001).

While concentrating on the two centres classed as "very weak", your report failed to identify the one centre that received a grade 2 "adequate" pass rating. What the inspectorate said was that the "quality of provision is adequate to meet the needs of those receiving it. The quality of work-based learning is good and EMTA's Cleveland Training Centre's leadership and management is satisfactory."

A far cry from your headline "Two out of five very weak".
