Checks on drivers

Edinburgh is to run automatic checks on contracted bus drivers with the Scottish Criminal Record Office before entering into transport arrangements for pupils. Bus escorts are already subject to checks. City officials say that the council was planning to tighten its vetting procedures before a recent case in which a driver on a school trip from Corstorphine primary was found to have a conviction for rape.
