* In 20012, local authorities made more than 30,000 child protection registrations

* All schools must have a designated member of the senior management team who is responsible for child protection

* Recent government guidance says all school staff should receive child protection training, with refresher courses every three years

* Seven per cent of adults claim to have received serious physical abuse as children
