Chris Woodhead re-appointed as chief inspector

13th November 1998 at 00:00
Schools minister Charles Clarke told a conference last week that Mr Woodhead was re-appointed because the Government feared that it might otherwise be thought as complacent about the issues he had been raising.

Mr Clarke added that he had already made clear to Mr Woodhead that he considered that the chief inspector did not always express his views in the most constructive of ways.

"My appeal would be for people to stop focusing on Chris Woodhead."
