The Joint Council for General Qualifications says:
"Suppose that, in both January 2001 and June 2001, the student's result in Unit 1 is not as good as he'd hoped. He cashes in units for an AS award in summer 2001 and this allows him to start the AS again. He sits Unit 1 again in January 2002. This is allowed because the AS units have been cashed in for a qualification grade. He is now entitled to two more attempts at each AS unit. When the A-level awardis claimed in summer 2002, only the two most recent attempts at each unit will be considered.
* (Score for) Unit 1 - the better result from January 2002 and June 2002
* Unit 2 - the better result from June 2001 and January 2002
* Unit 3 - June 2001
* Unit 4 - the better result from January 2002 and June 2002
* Unit 5 - June 2002
* Unit 6 - June 2002"
