Colourful explanations

2nd July 2004 at 01:00
Maths Tips are large, colourful, clear posters that illuminate some of the more obscure corners of the numeracy strategy. Some show children how to do specific things: use their fingers for simple sums, customise a number line for harder additions and subtractions, make sense of calculator buttons.

Others are concerned with general principles: organising the stages of solving a problem, understanding ratios, relating fractions, decimals and percentages to one another. There's even a poster on what to do when you're stuck. Maths Tips posters, in English and EnglishWelsh, are distributed by the Basic Skills Agency, Admail 524, London WC1A 1BR.
