PARKER NATIONAL SCHOOLS HANDWRITING COMPETITION. Parker is launching the fifth National Schools Handwriting Competition, in conjunction with SATIPS. A new category has been introduced - for students with special needs. The competition takes into account guidelines from the National Curriculum on writing and presentation attainment targets. The awards for a School Prize have been increased this year. The winner receives Pounds 750 while the runners-up get Pounds 250. Closing date: March 31. THE BRITISH RED CROSS CARE IN CRISIS AWARDS.

Sponsored by Zeneca, the Red Cross Awards recognise individuals whose acts of care have prevented a crisis or whose dedication and love has brightened the life of someone in need. Tell the British Red Cross your story of someone who has provided care and love in a crisis. Is there someone special you would like to thank?

Nomination forms are available from local British Red Cross Branches or ring the Care in Crisis hotline on 0171 235 3298, Scotland on 0141 332 9591. Closing date is February 23.

THE ROYAL INSTITUTION OF CHARTERED SURVEYORS

Pounds 250 worth of books or equipment is on offer to the winner of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors' Schools Award. The Award is for any project carried out by schoolchildren which relates to one of the following themes: conserving a building, conserving the countryside, urban renewal, greening the city. The environmental competition aims to recognise outstanding achievement in the fields of conservation and enhancement of our built and natural environment. Closing date for entries : February 29.
