T E UTLEY MEMORIAL AWARDS: Aspiring journalists still at school or university are invited to enter unpublished essays of up to 1,200 words by April 30 on "The question of Ulster is one which profoundly concerns what, in the old-fashioned phrase, is called 'the honour and interest of Britain'". Pounds 1,500 will be awarded to the best entrant aged under 18 and Pounds 2,500 to the best aged under 25. Details: Brigid Utley, 0171 792 0161.


Schoolchildren aged 11-15 are invited to submit a recipe for the Little Chef menu by April 30 to: Little ChefBBC Good Food Competition, 52 Broadwick Street, London W1V 1FF. Six finalists will "cook-off" their recipes in a culinary battle in London before a judging panel headed by Loyd Grossman. The winner will receive an IBM Aptiva multimedia computer and earn Pounds 3, 000 for their school, and runners-up will receive an electronic personal organiser and Pounds 1,000 for their school.
