Computers and cakes are brought together in a brief but informative booklet from the British Nutrition Foundation. Implementing CAD and CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacture) outlines a number of ways in which food technology classes can follow the procedures of a multi-million-pound industry. It might involve designing a novelty biscuit or experimenting with different kinds of labels and packages. It might be a matter of altering sizes or costs of portions, controlling cooking times or modelling the shelf life of a currant bun. The focus is always on thoughtful preparation leading to healthy eating. Implementing CAD and CAM is available free from the British Nutrition Foundation website.
