Computer subsidy

20th October 2000 at 01:00
YOUR item, "Teachers' key to hi-tech" (TESS, September 29), reporting on the next phase of Computers for Teachers, highlighted that the pound;200 subsidy could be used to buy or upgrade their own computer. I would like to bring to your attention that the pound;200 subsidy can only be used to purchase a new computer and cannot be used to upgrade an existing one.

The Computers for Teachers initiative is specifically designed toencourage new users. Last week, Learning and Teaching Scotland delivered 8,000 application packs to all state-funded primary and secondary schools. The terms and conditions of the Computers for Teachers scheme are outlined in detail in the application packs. The closing date for all applications is Friday, November 10.
