* Mathematical ideas and activities for the primary and secondary classroom will be demonstrated at a conference organised by the Association of Teachers of Mathematics at Gosforth High School, Newcastle upon Tyne, on October 16. Sessions will include the 24 Game, tiling, software for the maths classroom, problem-posing and a Crystal Maze for the classroom. Fee: pound;30, pound;20 members. The programme includes seminars given by representatives from the National Numeracy Strategy and Teacher Training Agency. Details as above.

* The Mathematical Association's annual conference will be held at Exeter University, April 15-18. Speakers include Professor Ross Sutherland, Ruth Merttens (co-director of the Hamilton Maths and Reading Project) and Professor Ted Wragg from Exeter University.
