Cook of the north

7th May 2010 at 01:00

Irvine Royal Academy's dinner lady, Suzanne Duncan, has reached the finals of UK School Cook of the Year. The North Ayrshire cook, who will represent Scotland and the north east, had to serve a two-course meal that met national nutritional guidelines but cost no more than pound;1.25 per head. "School meals have a bit of a bad reputation, but they're nothing like the stereotypical mince and tatties and steamed sponge puddings of years ago," says Suzanne. She will go head-to-head with 10 other regional finalists in London on May 11.
