Council joins the Internet
The NGC Information and Communication System, known as ngc-online, can be accessed from any computer connected to the international computer network known as the World Wide Web; some schools are already connected and many more are expected to be so soon.
Parts of the council's system are open to anyone on the web but some sections are restricted to members of governing bodies affiliated to the NGC.
The idea is to provide a route for accurate and reliable information and the NGC is talking to governor support and training agencies who may be interested. NGC affiliates will also be able to follow and take part in open exchanges of news and views on educational subjects.
Simon Goodenough, chairman of the council, said that using modern technology to enable effective communications for governors would help raise the profile of information technology in schools.
The council also hopes the open part of the system will include advertisements from businesses that want to reach schools and governors. Messages can now be sent to the NGC by electronic mail.
