Council nets cheap travel deal

24th January 2003 at 00:00
SHEFFIELD council has persuaded local travel firms to offer discounts to families going away in school holidays to stop parents taking children out of class during the term. LunnPoly, Thomas Cook and Travelink in Sheffield are offering discounts of between 5 and 10 per cent on overseas holidays.

The scheme aims to improve attendance in the city, where secondary truancy is twice the national rate.
