THE MOTHER of Caroline Dickinson, the 13-year-old raped and murdered on a school trip to France is suing her education authority, Cornwall County Council, for negligence.

Sue Dickinson told the High Court in Plymouth on Wednesday she was "horrified" to learn that the doors to the Brittany hostel where the attack took place in July 1996 had not been locked. She accused staff of failing to carry out proper checks.

Caroline's body was found by schoolmates from Launceston community college when they woke up the following morning.
