The London Institute of Education at 20 Bedford Way, WC1is running short courses for newly-qualified teachers of history,science, English, geography, modern languages and mathematics.
They involve attendance on six afternoons during the spring and autumn terms and will tackle current issues related to the post-Dearing national curriculum and aim to further participants' professional development, fee Pounds 180. Day courses include: "Literacy, numeracy and IT- the national curriculum core skills", October 26, fee Pounds 50; "History and information technology in the primary school", February 27, fee Pounds 40; and "Part 2 - IT in the context of the Dearing report and OFSTED inspection", May 9, fee Pounds 45.
Also on the Institute of Education course programme is "Primary designated English", which starts on October 13 and runs for 10 days during the autumn and spring terms. Among the topics it covers are language and learning and the national curriculum, the value of literature and poetry in the primary curriculum, fee Pounds 400. For experienced primary teachers, there is an art and design course, November 21-24, fee Pounds 165, and a day course on November 24 on key stage 12 assessment order DFE 2194(implications for assessment practice), fee Pounds 60.
