The National Galleries of Scotland has announced details of its fourth annual art competition for schools, which has a closing date of May 11.

Sponsored by Scottish Widows, there are five categories in the competition which last year attracted 2,500 entries from schools. Three works of art from the collections of the National Galleries are selected to stimulate pupils' efforts, with a different theme for each age group.

The 53 winning entries will be displayed at the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh, and at other venues throughout the country.
