CRICKET could soon gain new prominence in the national curriculum with a move to introduce it into compulsory subjects.

Maths teachers will be encouraged to adopt cricket-related exercises, such as calculating averages and run rates, English teachers will be urged t include lessons in contrasting styles of newspaper match reports, and science teachers to involve topics such as how a ball spins.

Produced by the England and Wales Cricket Board, the "Howzat!" education resource packs will be distributed to all schools.
