Author and TV presenter Professor Tanya Byron is one of the keynote speakers at Nasen Live, the event for special needs held by the organisation for special needs teachers. It will take place at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton on May 26-27 and includes seminars, workshops, a resources showcase and guest speakers. Dyslexia training funding

The Training and Development Agency for Schools is providing funding towards the course fees of teachers who want to take specialist dyslexia training courses. To be eligible, teachers must have completed their induction, be working in a maintained school and have the written consent of their headteacher. The funding is for courses starting between September and February 2011 that lead to approved teacher status or associate membership of the British Dyslexia Association. Teachers who register their interest will be forwarded a list of training providers once approved. For details and to register interest, visit

Jean Gross, the new communication champion, will be a guest speaker at a Nasen conference on effective communication strategies for pupils with speech, language and communication difficulties at Loughborough University on September 24. The conference aims to address key developments in speech, language and communication affecting pupils and schools. More details at
