Dame Mavis Grant praised

9th May 2003 at 01:00
* Schools minister David Miliband this week praised Dame Mavis Grant, who featured in last week's launch of The TES Target Creativity campaign. In evidence to MPs on the education and skills select committee, Mr Miliband endorsed Dame Mavis's view that there is no conflict between academic progress and creativity but launched a passionate defence of testing and targets. Junior minister Stephen Twigg admitted that the Government's rhetoric had sometimes paid too little attention to creativity.
