DAILY MIRROR. Just over two years ago, David Blunkett boasted that he would ruthlessly stamp out every "moaning, whingeing, lazy sod" in the teaching profession. His "must do better campaign", aimed at improving the standard of our teachers, sounded spot on. <> So what happened to this promise of a golden era in the classroom?

Er, a meltdown in teacher recruitment so severe that children are being sent home from school or, in certain areas, forced onto a four-day week.
