IT seems that there is a long way to go before top education figures become household names.

Two-thirds of parents couldn't name David Blunkett as the Education Secretary. However, Mr Blunkett's advisers shouldn't panic - simila numbers failed to name Jack Straw as the Home Secretary and John Prescott as responsible for transport.

Only a fifth knew that the chief inspector of schools is Chris Woodhead. But he was popular among those who did.
