The ladder of opportunity would be replaced by a "climbing frame of opportunity", under the Liberal Democrats, according to their FE and HE spokeseman David Rendel.

In a bizarre speech, he explained to conference: "The difficulty with a ladder is what happens when you step off it sideways. Usually disaster."

Quite true. But why can't we have a bouncy castle?
