Doing more, better

The wide-ranging nature of education authorities' work was demonstrated in this year's excellence awards for councils, run by the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities.

The education and community services department in Dumfries and Galloway came top in "advancing community well-being"; Highland's education, culture and sports service was a winner in the "health improvement" category and the Scottish Executive's "delivering excellence" award; and South Lanarkshire's education resources department took a prize for "culture change in support services".
