Doll houses

Miniature versions of the adult world appeal to people of all ages. Two titles in Shire Books' attractive illustrated series of compact paperbacks explore the charm of Dolls' Houses and Children's Cars. There is a wealth of social history here. We see the beautiful intricacy of old German and Dutch houses, reflecting the wealth and stylishness of their owners, as well as the affordable plastic of today's sturdy Playmobil. The cars don't go back so far in time, but they demonstrate a bewildering variety of designs. Rolls-Royces from the 1920s share the pages with more recent Citro ns and Aston Martins.
