Dreaming spires and extreme reactions
Are Oxford and Cambridge trying hard enough to level the playing field? Unlike other universities, it is the individual colleges (38 at Oxford, 31 at Cambridge) that are the admitting authorities, and this adds an extra layer of complexity that schools with inside knowledge can exploit.
Removing that complexity would be one of a number of steps that these superb universities should take to tackle the shocking waste of talent they are inflicting on themselves.
