Clackmannan, the exceptionally wee county, is boasting of magnificent achievements in the combined education and community services department.

An overview of activities in the past year ranges from early reading initiatives and primary school extensions to significant gains in Standard grade exams.

The council is obviously keen on celebrating success and has listed "two beer festivals" among its achievements. Proof enough, surely, it can organise a piss-up in an Alloa brewery.
