Eat your heart out, France
Prizes, ranging from bakeware and digital scales to a smoothie maker, will be awarded to the best six schools in each region - Scotland is one of 11 - and the overall national winner will receive a top-of-the-range food processor from Kenwood, which is sponsoring the event.
This year, British Food Fortnight has expanded three-fold its initiative in which cooks work with schools for two weeks in September. Organisations representing more than 9,000 chefs have volunteered to take part, which means the British event is now bigger than France's long-running Semaine du gout, a similar event in which chefs teach pupils about the delights of their national cuisine.
