Education chief bows out

IAN Reid, 57, director of education at South Tyneside council, is to take early retirement after a critical report by inspectors, the council announced this week. The Labour-controlled authoritys lead education councillor, Joan Jackson, has resigned. The moves come after inspectors found South Tyneside was providing ineffective support to schools.
