Elgin marvels

21st April 2006 at 01:00
It was not long before we heard from the Tories about the school wars in Elgin over opposition to plans - "controversial" of course - to merge the town's two secondary schools.

Mary Scanlon, the 59-year-old former MSP who is Tory candidate in the Moray by-election, showed her affinity with youth by launching "2schools4elgin.com".

No doubt this was the reason councillors took the wise course to retain Elgin High and Elgin Secondary as separate schools - at a redevelopment cost of pound;52 million. Wonder what the Tory scourges of public sector profligacy think of that? Truly, there must be a by-election on.
