Scottish schools and libraries which think they are leading the charge when it comes to fostering excitement in young people about reading, language and writing are being invited by the Scottish Book Trust to compete for a best practice award.

The top five projects entered for the Standard Life Best Practice Award will have the opportunity to spread the word about their work at the trust's Creative Sparks conference to be held in Edinburgh oon February 27. The winning project will receive resources for the school or organisation to the value of Pounds 1,000 and will be chosen by delegates on the day.

The Scottish Book Trust says: "We are always inspired by the great ideas and excellent practice we come across in schools and libraries and we think other people should know about it. If you have developed a project that you think is innovative and really effective, we would love to hear from you."

The Creative Sparks conference is aimed at learning professionals interested in creative approaches to literature in education.

The keynote speakers will be Children's Laureate Michael Rosen and Ninive Calegari of 826 National, a non-profit tutoring, writing, and publishing organisation with locations in seven cities across America.
