English - Online bards for bairns

26th February 2010 at 00:00

Some of the world's best children's authors are being brought together in an online resource for schools.

Meet Our Authors, launched this week, will include live events with writers, broadcast over the internet; competitions; and Facebook and YouTube campaigns with exclusive clips of authors.

The live events are the centrepiece and will feature names such as Michael Rosen (above), Julia Donaldson, Eoin Colfer, Philip Pullman and Jacqueline Wilson. Each will talk to a live audience at the same time as the event is broadcast over the internet.

More than 80,000 children from 900 schools across the UK and abroad have signed up to watch the first live broadcasts (one for primary, the other for secondary) with Michael Rosen on World Book Day, March 4.

The programme of live events, which involves the Scottish Book Trust and the BBC, will last for two years.
