Ethical trade given a boost

Two-thirds of schoolchildren are aware of Fairtrade products, certified by the Fairtrade Foundation for ensuring fair wages and prices for workers in developing countries. More than 10,000 children between seven and 16 and 372 teachers took part in the survey by Comic Relief and the Day Chocolate Company. It showed that 25 per cent more children were aware of Fairtrade than in 1999, 73 per cent of teachers felt teaching pupils about the issue has become more important, and 64 per cent of schools taught it in citizenship, geography, personal and social health education and RE.
