To Eton via Camden

4th April 2003 at 01:00
A TEENAGER at an inner-city comprehensive in London has won a scholarship to Eton. Diego O'Neill, aged 16, will transfer to the public school after completing his GCSEs at South Camden community college, north London.

Diego beat thousands of other applicants to win one of four fully-paid scholarships to Eton's sixth-form offered to state schools.

Anthony Little, Eton headteacher, said he had been impressed by Diego's character. "His test results were not the strongest we have ever had, but pretty reasonable and much better than could be expected. I think he is a boy who will do very well here."
