JUNE 30-OCTOBER 8 FROM MANET TO GAUGUIN: MASTERPIECES FROM SWISS PRIVATE COLLECTIONS

Works by such masters as Cezanne, Degas, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Manet, Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Sisley and Toulouse-Lautrec, many never exhibited before, are on display at the Royal Academy of Arts, Piccadilly, London W1. They include: Monet's "Haystacks", Gauguin's last self-portrait, Renoir's still-life "Pheasant in the Snow" and Cezanne's "In the Woods". Details: 0171 494 5615.

JULY 1-9 SEA WEEK

Schools from all over Northern Ireland are participating in this marine environment awareness week organised by Northern Ireland's only public aquarium, Exploris, in Castle Street, Portaferry, Co Down. It will include a lively Exploris Roadshow, with its own tank aquarium, beach clean-ups and fun events ranging from fish face painting to shore walks. Details: 012477 28062.

JULY 3-9 NATIONAL ODD SOCKS WEEK

Sponsor someone or be sponsored to wear odd socks for the day at your school, office or workplace in aid of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a charity which aims to make wishes come true for children with life-threatening or terminal illnesses. Information pack from: 01276 24127.

JULY 3-9 CHILD SAFETY WEEK

A funday festival will be held at Falkner House Preparatory School for Girls, Brechin Place, London SW7 to raise money for the Across Trust's Jumbulance, a fully-equipped ambulance that takes terminally ill adults and children on holidays abroad; the Pollyanna Appeal, which raises finance for high dependency hospital beds for children; and Whizz Kids, which provides wheelchairs for children. Events include: visits and demonstrations by police dog handlers, a police horse, the fire brigade and the Road Safety Department. Details: 0171 373 4501.

JULY 11-AUGUST 16 WALK FOR AFRICA

London to Edinburgh fundraising walk organised by FARM-Africa, the charity which helps peasant farmers in Africa to become self-sufficient. The core group of walkers will start off at London Zoo and finish at Edinburgh Zoo and will be joined en route by local groups from Rotary Clubs, guides, scouts and local businesses.
