The excellence and variety of youth music in Britain will be celebrated at the Schools Prom at the Royal Albert Hall, London SW7, November 13-15. Performers are selected from the 300 groups of young instrumentalists and singers participating in the Music for Youth National Festival at Birmingham music venues next week (see opposite page). * Rhythm Sticks, the annual festival of drumming and percussion from around the world held at the South Bank Centre, London SE1, July 15-23, will have a strong focus on Asian music, club events and DJ sets. Workshops and free events include Chakardar drum ensemble led by Harkirat Singh, Have-a-Go Drum Show presented by Mark Walker from the Lion King and Rolf Harris Band, Taiko workshops, and the chance to pound in a massive riverside drum circle.

* BBC Proms in the Park on September 9 brings the magic of the Last Night of the Proms to London, Belfast, Glasgow, Swansea and Manchester. Performers and presenters will include Angela Gheorghiu at Hyde Park, Ailish Tynan in Belfast, Aled Jones in Swansea and Inverclyde Junior Choir in Glasgow.
Highlights of all the outdoor proms are included in the BBC's live coverage of the Last Night at the Royal Albert Hall. The Proms season, which is due to start on July 14, also includes the Blue Peter Safari Adventure, July 22 and 23, 11am, featuring the world premiere of the new Blue Peter theme tune, a music workshop and BP competition winners playing on stage with the BBC Philharmonic.
