UNTIL AUGUST 31 ANIMAL MAGIC

On display at Whitstable Museum, Kent, are some of the original animal models from the Oscar-winning film Creature Comforts, Basil Brush, the Soup Dragon and Iron Chicken from The Clangers, animal works from local artists, cinema memorabilia, posters, books, record covers, original cartoons and toys. The exhibition is a tribute to Johnny Morris, who is 80 this year. Free admission. Details: 01227 276998.

UNTIL SEPTEMBER 22 OLD HILL PAST AND PRESENT Exhibition at Haden Hill House, Barrs Road, Sandwell, West Midlands, featuring objects, photographs and memories from Old Hill residents covering the last 100 years. UNTIL SEPTEMBER 29 WHEN WE WERE VERY YOUNG As part of its 60th birthday celebrations, the Cambridge and County Folk Museum has collected oral histories from local people to find out what childhood was like in the five decades since 1936. SUMMER HOLIDAYS WHIZ-KID WORKSHOPS AND SUMMER CLUB Young visitors to Bradford's National Museum of Photography, Film and Television can create space cities and mobiles, develop miniature movies and take part in animation antics every Monday (6 to 8-year-olds), Tuesday (9 to 12s) and Friday (13 upwards). Or they can become a director, camera operator, actor or animator and make a multimedia masterpiece with the help of Action Replay, the museum's theatre company, at the summer club's media magic festival every Wednesday (8 to 12s) and Thursday (13 upwards). Free taster sessions every afternoon on different themes, and Action Replay gallery performances involving video, photography, song and movement. Details: 01274 727488.

AUGUST 5-26 STARLIGHT GALLERY This independent abstract art gallery at 27 Bellevue Road, Southampton, is dedicated to raising funds for disabled artists. On displayfor sale will be work by disabled artists from the Hexagon Centre; Fareham and Gosport Mental Health Day Services Art Group competition prize-winners; Contact Art Group; and Group '94, Ringwood competition prize-winners. AUGUST 7-8 CHILDREN'S HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES The Ragged School Museum, Bow, London E3, is marking 100 years of cinema with an "Optical illusions" workshop for children aged 6 upwards, August 7, 2-4pm, in which they will make an early animated toy. On August 8, children aged 6 upwards and 3 to 5 years (with adult), can attend a Victorian lesson, 2pm and 3.15pm. Free tickets allocated one hour beforehand. Details: Liz Denton, 0181 980 6405.

AUGUST 13 LEFT-HANDERS DAY The Left-Handers Club has organised events at 15 venues from Aberdeen to Clacton. They include: "Sinister way of life?", an exhibition at Vestry House Museum, Walthamstow, London E17, which displays results of surveys undertaken in local schools; and celebrations in Covent Garden, London WC2, and the Coach and Horses pub in Canterbury, where anyone successfully opening wine with a left-handed corkscrew will be given a free drink.
