UNTIL JULY 20 SHEFFIELD CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL The programme includes: street performance with music, dance and drama, a gala concert featuring opera star Lesley Garrett with Sheffield Young Choirs, film-making, a festival of science, drama at the Crucible Theatre, city decoration, and several exhibitions. UNTIL JULY 21 JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL ON TOUR

Some of the highlights from this year's JFF in London will be shown at Watershed Media Centre, Bristol, including: "Shorts on Show", July 14, (Grandpa's Funeral, Pressure Drop, and The Party Favour) and Oskar and Jack plus Matzo Balls and Black-Eyed Peas, July 21. Details: 0117 927 6444.

ALL SUMMER CAMDEN SUMMER FUNSPLASH

Whether it's reading, theatre or sports, there is something on the programme for children of all ages. It kicks off with the Camden Libraries Reading Scheme for 6 to12-year-olds. Participants will write reviews of books they have read, which will be entered in a prize draw. Everyone receives a "take off with a book" pen and passport. Details from participating libraries. JULY 17 YOUNG WRITERS' WORKSHOP

Better English Campaign event run by Victoria Glendinning at the Royal Society of Literature, 1 Hyde Park Gardens, London W2.
